Facing History and Ourselves
Facing History and Ourselves is an international organization that uses lessons of history to challenge teachers and their students to stand up to bigotry and hate.
Debbie Klein, Interim Executive Director
Since the Cleveland office opened in 1999, Facing History has provided more than 4154 area educators with our programs and resources. These educators reach almost 285,000 middle and high school students in 475 independent, religious, and public schools throughout the greater Cleveland area.
Our deepening relationship with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) exemplifies the rich ways Facing History supports teachers in a variety of settings. In 2012, CMSD and Facing History started a high school, Facing History New Tech (FHNT) where Facing History curriculum and values are embedded into every grade level and discipline. In addition to the support and coaching offered to educators and administrators at FHNT, Facing History offers similarly high levels of instructional coaching and training to the 12 other schools that are embedding Facing History into their whole school: these 13 schools are part of the Facing History Northeast Ohio Schools Network.
FH Partner schools show the deepest and most transformative impacts of all of our work. These diverse urban, suburban, parochial, public, and independent schools are no exception.
In addition, Facing History is named in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Cleveland Teachers Union and Cleveland Metropolitan School District as the SEL (social and emotional learning) provider for all CMSD high schools for the 2019-2020 school year.
Facing History Cleveland is looking ahead to deepening our impact in the district over the next few years.
