Description

KNOW Abuse™ is a powerful, in person or remote educational program that engages tweens, teens, and college students in a peer-led open and honest discussion about teen dating violence.  Through conversations about consent, healthy relationships, and supporting friends, KNOW Abuse™ hopes to end teen dating violence and domestic violence in our communities.  The KNOW Abuse™ curriculum can be incorporated into any discipline, including health, English, physical education, or family living curricula and meets the State of Ohio's requirement to provide teen dating violence prevention (Ohio House Bill 19). A Teen Advisory Board, comprised of area high school and college students, meets monthly with JFSA staff to discuss all aspects of the program, including teens today. The board helps the staff identify components of the program which work well and those which need updating.

Peer Leadership Institute

JFSA trains volunteer students to become Peer Leaders who deliver the KNOW Abuse™ curriculum to other student organizations and schools throughout our community.  Peer Leadership is a yearlong commitment to be available as often as possible for Advisory Board meetings and school events.  As a Peer Leader, students have the opportunity to acquire school leadership and public speaking skills, as well as volunteer hour credits with their schools (if applicable), and begin to build their resume. We welcome high school upperclassmen and college students to join our team.  Peer Leaders over 18 will be required to be fingerprinted.
